At Science Node, we need your help. We have ALMOST reached our fund-raising goal. In order to maintain our independence as a source of unbiased news and information, we don’t take money from big tech corporations. That’s why we’re asking our readers to help us raise the final $10,000 we need to meet our budget for the year. Donate now to Science Node's Gofundme campaign. Thank you!
The Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) invites students to participate in the summer programme Summer of HPC 2015. The programme enables students to go to 10 PRACE member centres around Europe, where they will work on various projects with the help of the most advanced supercomputer systems. Applications are open until 8 March 2015.
Summer of HPC is a PRACE programme that offers summer placements at HPC (high-performance computing) centres across Europe to late stage undergraduates and early stage postgraduate students. Up to 20 top applicants from all across Europe will be selected to participate and work at HPC centres in UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Czech Republic, Italy, Cyprus, Slovenia and Hungary.
Participants will spend two months working on projects related to PRACE scientific or industrial work and ideally produce a visualisation or video of their results. The aims of the projects are among others to enable 3D visualisations for medical purposes, to design the users own Supercomputer cluster, to help exploring Mars surface, to create an interactive visualisation application for the weather and climate regime which are influenced by many physical parameters.
The programme will run from 1 July to 31 August 2015. At the end of the programme, two best participants will be awarded for their contribution at the Awards Ceremony on 1 October 2015 with the award for Best Visualisation and be named HPC Ambassador.
The applications are open until 8 March 2015 at https://summerofhpc.prace-ri.eu/apply/. The applicants do not need to have previous experience in HPC, however some coding knowledge is a prerequisite, but the most important attribute is a desire to learn and share experience about HPC.

The Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) is an international non-profit association with its seat in Brussels. The PRACE Research Infrastructure provides a persistent world-class high performance computing service for scientists and researchers from academia and industry in Europe. The computer systems and their operations accessible through PRACE are provided by 4 PRACE members (BSC representing Spain, CINECA representing Italy, GCS representing Germany and GENCI representing France). The Implementation Phase of PRACE receives funding from the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement RI-312763. For more information see www.prace-ri.eu.
